The Great Glen Canal
by Alastair McDonald
Recorded by Alastair McDonald
There's danger in the Pentlands now that Frenchie’s on the roam
So its time to find another route to bring the bacon home
We'll dig our way to freedom for our daughters and our sons
With three lochs there already, ha, the job is nearly done
So we'll clear our way through history and let the waters flow
Through the Great Glen round the hillocks where the deer alone can go
From Inverness to Corpach you will see the sails unfold
Our canal will be a wonder to behold
Our canal will be a wonder to behold
Now Moses was the man who led his people through the sea
And Telford's just the man to make our dream reality
With some Heavenly inspiration and some human perspiration
We'll climb up Neptune's staircase and drive eastwards to the sea
Yes we'll clear our way through history and let the waters flow
Through the Great Glen round the hillocks where the deer alone can go
From Inverness to Corpach you will see the sails unfold
Our canal will be a wonder to behold
Our canal will be a wonder to behold
Then all over bonnie Scotland folk will bow their heads and thanks
For the food upon their tables despite Napoleon's pranks
For true men of honest labour and upright dignity
The glens will be a waterway for all the world to see
Yes we'll clear our way through history and let the waters flow
Through the Great Glen round the hillocks where the deer alone can go
From Inverness to Corpach you will see the sails unfold
The canal will be a wonder to behold
Yes we'll clear the way through history and let the waters flow
Through the Great Glen round the hillock where the deer alone can go
From Inverness to Corpach now you'll see the sails unfold
The canal is now a wonder to behold
A Heaven given wonder to behold
My sincere thanks go to Alastair McDonald for allowing me to use this recording and providing the definitive lyrics.
