Big Diesel Blues
by Dusty Miller
I've got a big diesel, down in my engine 'ole
I've got a big diesel, way down in my engine 'ole
When I fire it up baby, you wanna feel it rock and roll
You know that big blade's turning, grinding oh so slow
You know that big blade's turning, grinding to and fro
You sure can feel it Honey, throbbing way down low
My mechanic picked up her sockets, said she would depart
She packed away all her whitworths, walked out and depart
Now my lift pump's giving trouble and I just can't get a start
She found another diesel with a bigger bore and stroke
Yes she found a shiny diesel with a bigger bore and stroke
Without an engineer my motor's done gone broke
Now I've trouble with my injector, the fuel pumps gone run dry
I've trouble with my injector, my fuel pumps all run dry
I can't get no ignition it makes me wanna cry
Gonna get me a new mechanic, get the big end hot again
I need a new machanic to get my main bearing hot again
Please bring me your toolbox and relieve this aching pain
Dave Illingworth, a member of the group DPN+1, tell me that this is a standard 12-bar blues in the established
tradition of 'double entendre' blues, and that DPN+1 have performed it with great success at various waterway events.
