A talented songwriter and musician, he worked with his wife Sam, living on their narrowboat "The Maid in England". The influences of the waterways and railways were obvious in his work and with an eye for detail and a delightful sense of the comic, he tackled social history, romance and snobbery with vigour and passion. Recorded and mixed at Bandwagon Studios, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, August-September 1998 except for track 10 which was recorded at Gayton House, Gayton, North Hampshire.
