The Manchester Ship Canal (SS Irwell) is alleged to be a derivation of the 'Cruise of the Calabar' but similarities appear to be slight.
Similarly, The Mary Ann McHugh by the Irishman Percy French is alleged to be based on the 'Cruise of the Calabar'.
